9/6/18 The Gaia Theory

Learning Objective: I can examine the Gaia Theory in order to consider the earth as a complex and living system.

Gaia Theory- proposes that all organisms and their inorganic surroundings on Earth are closely integrated to form a single and self-regulating complex system, maintaining the conditions for life on the planet.

Proposed by James Lovelock in the 1970's. (James is an independent scientist, environmentalist, and futurist who lives in Dorset, England. Studied at Harvard/Yale/Oxford.)
