Q3 Homework Check; Continue air pollution; 6 Criteria Air Pollutants Chart

End of Quarter 3!
Homework check today is for 10 points

Do this WARM UP in your notebook while you wait for stamp:
1. Name the five atmospheric layers of the earth in order.
2. What are three possible sources of lead poisoning (excluding water contamination)?
3. What are the possible health impacts of asbestos exposure?
4. What is the chain of events that leads to mercury being ingested by humans?
5. What are the two 'notable toxins' found in plastics that are probable endocrine and hormone disruptors that you should avoid?

WARM UP review:
-NASA atmosphere info
-Clarification on 'Dirty Dozen' on EPA's website
-9 Ways to Avoid Hormone Disrupting Chemicals - Natural Resources Defense Council

Continue air pollution notes...

There are 6 types of air pollution recognized and monitored by the US Environmental Protection Agency

The Clean Air Act requires EPA to set National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for these air pollutants (aks "criteria air pollutants"). These pollutants are found all over the U.S.:

PM - particulate matter
CO - carbon monoxide
O3 - ozone (ground level pollution)
SO2 - sulfur dioxide
NOx - nitrogen oxides
Pb - lead

These all occur in the troposphere, from 0-12km

Create a chart in notebook and we will fill in with causes, concerns, solutions together for each of these 6 pollutants:
